Belinda Smith
Background:
I have lived in Canberra for over 20 years and have raised 2 children here.
I started painting when i was at school but have taken it up more seriously
over the last 5 years. My people are the Dhurag people. The Dhurag land
is around the Blacktown, Richmond area out to the Blue Mountains and
Hawkesbury region and a small section up to Woy Woy.
My ancestor was Yarramundi who was one the first Aboriginal men to
meet white people. He befriended Captain Phillip and help guide them
through the area he was named king of the Richmod tribe. Yarramundi
was also a healer there had been many areas dedicated to him one of them
being Yarramundi reach in the ACT.
Painting gives me great pleasure i find it relaxing and rewarding it gives me a
feeling that im contributing in keeping Indigenous culture and stories alive
through my art. Im inspired by bright colours and enjoy creating an explosion
of colour onto canvas.
Themes:
The techniques and style I use relate to my people and the land my ancestors
used to live on.The tell small stories about my life, their lifes and the land.

I have studied Indigenous art at Reid CIT Canberra and .
Solo Exhibitions:
I have entered into many local art exhibitions where I have sold many of my
works and have some of my art on display at Aarwun Art Gallery Gold Creek.
