What is the mission?
Burrunju Aboriginal Corporation was established to provide local Aboriginal people with an opportunity to realise their dream of self–determination by providing an avenue to sell art.
 

What industry is it in?

Burrunju has programs in the following areas:

  • Initiating programs to improve the resilience and the wellbeing of the local Aboriginal community.
  • Providing a Community Support Service in the Queanbeyan area
  • Providing a consigment service for the marketing, sale and leasing of Aboriginal Art & Craft
What is the Board’s vision?
Consistent with the drive and vision of its founder, the late Bob Huddleston, the Burrunju Board has a vision that includes establishing a sustainable business that:
  • Delivers culturally-appropriate programs to improve the resilience and the wellbeing of the local Aboriginal community
  • Creates meaningful and sustainable employment for members of the local Aboriginal community
  • Ensures that younger members of the local Aboriginal community are familiar with their culture and heritage so it can be passed on to future generations
  • Forms productive partnerships with other Aboriginal communities and businesses; and with organisations that provide services to Aboriginal communities and businesses.

Board of Directors:

Dale Huddleston: Chairperson

Dale's people are from the Ngardi tribe, Roper River through his father and is connected to the Wiradjuri tribe, Talbragar through his mothers people.  Dale has been an artist for some 20 years and is reknown for his murals which are displayed around the Canberra Queanbeyan area.  Dale is employed as a youth program worker with Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation.

Pam Yealland: Treasurer.

Pam is a Wiradjuri women from Talbragar NSW.  Pam is working at Winnunga Nimmityjah AMS in the midwife program as an access worker.  Prior to coming to Canberra Pam worked with Sony record company for over 15 years.

Gerald Brennan: Director

Gerald comes from the Moree area where he was involved with the local community organisations for many years.  Gerald is a builder by trade and has worked on a number of constructions in western NSW.

Glynnis Church:  Deputy Chair

Glynnis is a Wiradjuri woman who originates from Wilcannia NSW.  Glynnis came to Canberra looking for work directly from school and made this her home.  Glynnis works at Gugan Gulwan Youth as a counsellor with the young women.

Rob Smith: Secretary

Rob is a Wiradjuri man from Peak Hill NSW.  Rob works as a labourer with the Gosford City Council, prior to that he worked with the national parks and wild life.
