Dennis Baksh
Background:
Dennis is a descendant of the Yorta Yorta language group from the Murray
River in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley region. His mother is from the Gippsland
area of Victoria and is a gunai Kurnai woman.
Dennis has produced Aboriginal artwork for many years and is an
accomplished artist in several mediums.
He has sold his artworks throughout Australia and overseas and in 2006 won
the prestigious SheppARTon Festival’s Koori Art Award.
Themes:
Dennis loves to walk through his traditional land allowing him to reconnect
with his culture and to nature which rejuvenates him. He practices the
collection of traditional herbs for medicinal purposes, which are used by family
members.
Dennis finds he is motivated by being able to reflect on his cultural
connections.
