Rodney Simpson
Birth Place: Griffiths
Born 1969 at Griffith NSW of a Wiradjuri mother
and a Yorta Yorta father.
Background:
He attended school in Griffith until leaving to go
fruit picking with his Grandfather. He worked for
the Griffith City Council for one and half years
before leaving to join the NSW Government
Railways and stayed there for 14 years before being
made redundant.
Rodney had an arts practice as a young man and has only recently returned to
seriously practicing his art since 2014. He bases his work on his own life and
is currently working on a series based on his years travelling witht he Railways.
It is contemporary but grounded in his Wiradjuri culture.
The medium he likes to work with is wood, both 2D and 3D. For 2D works
he cuts into ply board and then uses stain rather than paint to allow the wood
grain to show through. He limites his colours to four.
